In June 2026, the NSW Government launched the Home Energy Saver scheme. For anyone who has been putting off solar because of the upfront cost, it changes the numbers. Eligible households can borrow up to $15,000 at 0% interest to install solar, a battery, and other energy-saving upgrades. No interest. No fees. Nothing to pay upfront.

The NSW Home Energy Saver loan

The NSW Home Energy Saver is part of the NSW Consumer Energy Strategy, backed by $238.9 million in Government funding. It removes the upfront-cost barrier that stops households from switching to solar and cleaner energy. The loan runs to three numbers: - Up to $15,000 borrowed per property- 0% interest for the life of the loan- Repaid over up to 10 years. There are no fees. The full amount you borrow is the full amount you repay, spread across monthly instalments.

Eligibility

Eligibility requirements are broader than most government energy programs: - Your home is in NSW

- You own the property — owner-occupiers and landlords both qualify

- Combined household income is $210,000 or below

- You are an Australian citizen or permanent resident.

That income ceiling covers the vast majority of NSW homeowners. If you own your home and pay a power bill, you likely qualify on paper. The finance provider runs a responsible-lending assessment before approving any loan. Meeting the scheme's eligibility criteria does not guarantee loan approval — that decision rests with the lender.

Eligible upgrades

The loan covers solar panels and batteries, where most households get the strongest return. The eligible product list also includes: - Reverse-cycle air conditioning

- Heat-pump hot water systems.

- EV chargers

- Switchboard upgrades

- Induction cooktops

- Ceiling fans, insulation, and double glazing

Most customers use the loan to fund solar plus battery storage as a package. That combination cuts the majority of a typical household's grid electricity costs and earns a return on every kilowatt-hour of self-generated power.

Loans now, discount later

The $15,000 loan is open now. A separate $4,000 discount is described by the NSW Government as "coming soon" and is not yet available to apply for.

When the discount does open, the income test is strict: it applies only if your combined household income is under $80,000, or if someone in the household holds an eligible concession card such as a Pensioner Concession Card or Health Care Card. Most working families will not qualify for the discount.

That is not a reason to wait. The loan at 0% for 10 years is the real lever here, and it is available today.

Stack it with the federal battery rebate

The NSW Home Energy Saver loan can be used alongside the Commonwealth Cheaper Home Batteries program, which provides a direct discount on battery storage through accredited installers.

The federal rebate reduces the upfront battery cost; the loan finances the remainder at 0%. For some households, the two together can bring the out-of-pocket cost on installation day to near zero.

If you have been watching battery prices and waiting for the right moment, a federal discount combined with a 10-year interest-free loan is a strong case that the moment is now.

How the loan application works

Customers cannot apply to the lender directly. The scheme is installer-gated: only accredited suppliers can set up a loan application on your behalf.

Impressive Electrical & Solar is an accredited supplier under the NSW Home Energy Saver program. When we prepare your quote, we set up the loan application at the same time and send you a pre-filled link. You complete your own details — income, proof of property ownership — and submit directly to the finance provider. The provider runs its own credit and responsible-lending assessment and issues the approval decision.

The steps from quote to installation:

1. Contact us for a quote

2. We prepare your solar and battery proposal and set up the loan application

3. You receive a pre-filled link and complete your personal and financial details

4. Our approved NSW Government finance partner runs the credit and eligibility assessment

5. On approval, we book and complete the installation

6. You repay over up to 10 years, with no interest charged

Loan approval is the lender's decision, not ours. Our job is to make the path as clear as possible.

The numbers in practice

A typical Sydney household spending $2,400 a year on electricity and installing a 6.6 kW solar system with a 10 kWh battery can expect annual savings in the range of $1,500 to $2,000, depending on usage patterns and feed-in rates.

At that rate, the system pays for itself well within the loan term, and households start building a surplus before they finish repaying.

Spread across 10 years at 0%, a $15,000 loan comes to $125 per month. Compare that to what most households pay per quarter on electricity.

Check your eligibility and get a quote
